Mariner Marine Insurance Winter Series Day 3, Sunday 1 June
This Sunday we have windward leeward courses.  There will be 3 starts: Trackers at 1100, Reactors at 1105, and Mixed at 1110.  3 races are scheduled, with a target time of 45 minutes per race.

Series Entries Still Open
There is still time to enter the series!!  With only two races completed out of a total of 16, there is plenty of good sailing yet to come. Remember you are allowed to drop 3 races from the series, so everyone still has a chance.  If you haven't entered already, get your entries in now!!

Crew Available
If you need crew, please contact us!!  We have too many crew, and not enough boats.

Gate Marks
This year the windward leeward courses have changed a bit, and so have the rules.  The course is still two laps, but instead of a single bottom mark there is now a leeward gate.  You must pass through the gate and round one of the gate marks at the bottom of the first run.  Refer to the sailing instructions for more details.  Mark room now applies at the three boat length zone.  And don't forget that Rule 18 (mark room) overrides Rule10 (port/starboard) - you must give way to the inside boat no matter what tack they are on.

Prizegiving
Make sure you are at Ponsonby Clubhouse before 5:30pm for the prizegiving.  There are heaps of prizes, photos of the action on the water, and free sausages. You have a chance to win a spot prize and there are is also a spot prize for crew.

The UpTo26 Club

Welcome to the Upto26Club!

Big series for small keelboats

If New Zealand sailing is characterised by regular people racing small, affordable boats, then the Upto26’ Club is as Kiwi as it comes, and its fortnightly winter programme is sure to please.

Started approximately five years ago to cater for small keelers that were keen on social but competitive racing, the club’s racing programme is this year hosted by the Ponsonby Cruising Club, and supported by Mariner Marine Insurance. Starting on Sunday 17 May with racing for the Al McLauchlan Memorial Trophy – in memory of ‘Big Al’, the club’s first race officer – the season prize pool is more than $7,000 and includes cash and sponsor prizes.

But it’s all about the racing for the Upto26’ Club, and to encourage entrants from Westhaven, Bucklands Beach and Milford, the race course is in the Northern Leading area of the Harbour, and consists of both harbour and windward/leeward courses. With around 40 boats expected, including Trackers, Reactors and Noelex 22s, it will be one of the biggest fleets on the harbour this winter.

Anybody with a small keelboat is welcome to join in the fun. For more information call Peter Worsley on 09 377 0797 or 021 901 606.
